Luxury Hotel Furnishings:
Devoto Design's Project for Hotel Romeo in Rome

The Art of Organic Forms Comes to Life

Devoto Design created the furnishings for the luxury Hotel Romeo in Rome. Let's explore the project by Zaha Hadid Architects and the stunning creations by Devoto.

Hotel Romeo is a luxury hotel located on one of Rome’s most beautiful streets, owned by Romeo Immobiliare.

Sinuous geometric lines and organic forms come to life, embodying the unmistakable style of Zaha Hadid Architects. This breathtaking architectural design meets the uniqueness of Devoto Design’s Italian craftsmanship.

Devoto Design's Contribution – Luxury Hotel Furnishings

Devoto Design, an Italian excellence in the executive design of bespoke furnishings, was responsible for the creation of all the hotel's common areas: the lobby, reception, Ducasse restaurant, bar, spa, massage room, gym, cigar room, and the grand external staircase.
A common thread unites all the spaces crafted by Devoto: double-curved furnishings and claddings, the result of a meticulous selection of materials (marble, metals, solid surfaces, and, above all, wood) and a cutting-edge approach to production processes.

Masterful craftsmanship and the use of premium materials, combined with a relentless pursuit of innovative manufacturing technologies, have transformed visionary ideas into a tangible reality.

Before we begin our tour inside Hotel Romeo, it is important to highlight how Devoto Design successfully created harmony across the spaces, despite working with diverse materials and technologies in the production of furnishings and claddings.

Lobby and Reception: Hospitality and Italian Craftsmanship

The lobby’s vaults are made of curved stainless steel (or as Devoto calls them, “whale skeletons”). The ceilings and wall claddings of the reception area are crafted from fiberglass and powder-coated brass slats. The two curved reception desks feature dark marble as the dominant element, enriched with brass details. Completing the space is a sleek and functional wooden and resin-coated glass shelf-console, with a variable width that appears to seamlessly emerge from the wall.

Bar and Restaurant: A Five-Star Dining Experience – Luxury Hotel Furnishings

The double-curved wall cladding and ceiling design reappear in both the bar and restaurant, creating a seamless visual flow. In Chef Alain Ducasse’s restaurant and the bar, high-gloss Amara ebony takes center stage. This exquisite wood forms column-like structures, from which "branches" extend across the ceiling. The interplay of carved and solid elements, intricately woven and shaped like leaves, allows light to filter through, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. Achieving this dynamic fusion of forms and light was one of the most challenging aspects of the project, a challenge masterfully overcome through Devoto Design’s innovative engineering approach.

Cigar Room, Spa, and Gym: Elegance and Wellness by Devoto Design

Continuity and harmony. Amara ebony also takes center stage in the cigar room, where the space is defined by curved, tapered wall niches and double- and triple-curved bookcases. The flowing lines of the furnishings follow the natural grain of the wood, achieving the intended goal—a perfect balance of harmony and rhythm.

Wood and curved geometric lines are also present in the spa and gym areas, where large wooden and gelcoat claddings rise from the floor and seamlessly extend to embrace the ceiling.

The External Staircase: The Art of Organic Forms Comes to Life

The external staircase, which leads up to the rooftop and is made of solid surface, is the crown jewel of Devoto Design’s extraordinary design and craftsmanship for Hotel Romeo.

The staircase is composed of white bands that cover the 7-meter-high back wall. These bands flow downward and curve, seamlessly transforming into steps, before rising again to form the balustrade. As one ascends, the bands gradually thicken, eventually merging into a single, sculptural solid surface structure.
